Taking a break from writing another blog entry for the company I work for to make a short and sweet announcement.
Apparently, at some point during this day, this lowly excuse for a blog showed up on WordPress.com’s Blogs of the Day Growing Blogs listing. Basically, this is a listing of the top 100 blogs that are making some sort of ripple of prospective growth within the 53,000+ blogs that are registered on the WordPress.com servers. Don’t believe me?
Without a doubt this is due to the wonderful people over at Anime-Source.com reading my Serious Business blog entry, as also shown in my stats. Though WordPress does not keep record of your fluctuating positions on the various listings they have, I must have been there long enough to catch the attention of two users…which honestly could have been a whole 30 seconds for all I know. Either way, if no one had clicked, I would have never known. They probably said to themselves…
“IsShouKenMei?? WTF kind of queer blog is this?” ::clicks absentmindedly::
Being on any of WordPress’s listings does not happen everyday unless you do it for a living or are a powerful leader in your niche, like CNN. What’s so convenient about that truth (Al Gore pun not intended) is that more times than not, if you are one of the two, you are most likely able to accomplish the latter with considerable ease. I’m very appreciative to all the users who found my prospective entry curious enough to give a click, which does not exclude those users who frequent my blog regardless of what I put out. Though the impact of making the Growing Blogs listings did not and would not cause any significant changes to why and how I blog, it would not have happened any other way.
You know, if WordPress did actually develop some sort of monitoring system that did track your staying power on any of their prominent blog listings based on the number of your position and time spent in that position, that would actually be a pretty sweet add-on for miniscule blogs like mine who hit the big time like once in their entire existence. We should be able to revel in something once in a while, and have all the data available to do so in an all-encompassing manner. Can I get a “FTW”?
EDIT: I have submitted my idea to the WordPress forums under the name: Track WordPress Listing Staying Power.
