Usually, in the time between my writing in this blog, I am busy working towards having something to show for my hard work living according to isshoukenmei. Until I have an idea of what I can share, whether it be an accomplishment, failiure, or another twist on the meaning of my blog, I usually refrain from sharing it. However, in this week alone, I have experienced a call to action that has never hit me like this before.
In this week alone, I have somehow been tracked down by four people — one of them I speak to fairly regularly — who thought I might be interested in doing a voice acting role for them. I was also given a nomination for the Fanime Awards, of which I need to record a speech for regardless of whether I win or not. This isn’t to brag or to seem high and mighty, but the idea that five opportunities could be given to me in such repetition is unbelievable to me.
I’m not anyone prolific on YouTube, so for people just to “happen to find me while surfing” is shocking to say the least. As for the nomination, I don’t recall ever being nominated for anything worth noting (unless you count text RPing), especially online. I don’t believe I will actually win, however, and voted for someone who deserved it way more, based on what they have up on YouTube already.
I should mention that it seems my hope of using YouTube as a networking tool to get my foot in the door for voice acting has gradually been paying off. One of the roles I was offered to audition for was a recommended reference from my wonderful friend and fellow aspiring, passionate VA. The wonderful thing is that I was able to turn around and recommend her for that same role that I was offered yesterday that turned out not to be one I effectively execute on any convincing level. Now if only I were more apt to network for my full-time job…
Though that particular role, for me, was a bust, the project leader allowed me to try out three other roles. In accordance with his deadline — the same day he offered the opportunity for me to audition (x_x) — I put together my newest voice demo reel that I think went very well. If you have three minutes to take a listen to my Dot Hack//Trilogy Fandub Audition, please do and share your impressions. They are very important to me as an aspiring VA, for I believe it is the listeners that essentially determine who is remembered in the midst of general chit-chat, especially among anime fans and gamers.

I pray there be more to come…
